The fast forward button

The fast forward button

A thought experiment – to find out if we are living the life we want to lead.

Do you know the terrible movie "Click" with Adam Sandler, where he has a remote control that allows him to fast forward through his life?

No? Count yourself lucky!

While the movie is not good, it serves as the basis for a great thought experiment: If we had such a fast forward button, which parts of our lives would we skip, and which would we not?

This thought experiment can clearly show us whether we are living the life we want to lead.

Fast Forward your Life 🚀

Do we want to live a life that we would mostly skip? Do we want a job from which we would skip the entire 40 hours a week?

The considerations about the fast forward button show us whether we enjoy the process of an activity or just the result.

And – don't get me wrong – it is totally okay to do some things just for the result. However, we spend most of our time in the process, while the outcome is just a moment. This means: If the process makes us unhappy, we spend most of our time unhappy.

I have the feeling – but this is just my impression – that the happiest people are those who live for the process and where the result is just a byproduct. Or at least not as important.

An impulse for you

Note everything you are currently doing in your life and consider if you would fast forward it if you could. Are there consequences you draw from this thought experiment?

Of course, it can also come out that you are okay with fast-forwarding certain things or even that you have nothing in your life that you would fast-forward. The better!

When I look back at my life, I definitely should have pressed "click" to fast-forward 🤷🏻‍♂️😄

Ich hab spontan einen Podcast aufgenommen. Wieso? Weil wir mehr Prototyping in unseren Leben brauchen.

Wie würdest du alles angehen, wenn es ganz einfach wäre?

Benutze deine Faulheit doch mal als kreatives Werkzeug.
